The first ones used were made of stone: river pebbles that, together with a layer of sand and lime, were sealed to form the first paved roads in history.  <\/p>\n<p>Later, wooden ones began to be used, with the aim of reducing the noise caused by carts and animal hooves when stepping on the paving stones.<\/p>\n<p>The third type of paving stone is ceramic brick, and it has been used for 5,000 years. In ancient <a href=\"https:\/\/historia.nationalgeographic.com.es\/a\/mesopotamia-cuna-civilizacion_6830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mesopotamia<\/a>, they were already used to pave streets and roads. They were placed on a layer of sand that sealed the joints, although the rapid wear of their surface made them obsolete.  <\/p>\n<p>Finally, <strong>concrete paving stones<\/strong> arrived. These began to be manufactured at the beginning of the 19th century and revolutionized the industry.
